ACBA 12/9/19 Christmas Supper

December Meeting Follow Up…

We hope everyone had a great time at Monday nights Christmas meeting!  Thank you to all who came out and joined in the fun, food and fellowshipping. If you missed it, then I have a small recap of our evening: Our guest speaker was Ben Powell.  He is the Pollinator and Invertebrate Conservation Specialist with Clemson Extension.  Ben took time to fill us in on what all he has planned for Clemson entomology department, our local beekeepers and how we can help him help us.  (Which is a win win for everyone!) First off, he is working to improve Clemson’s SC beekeeping website ( and will be rolling out a blog soon, with articles and other local beekeeping information he’ll share.  I’ll relay the blog website as soon as that’s available. He also spoke about an MP3, which is a guidance document for pesticide applicators/producers to recommend strategies for minimizing impacts to pollinators as a result of pesticide applications. It also gives state agencies guidance on improving pollinator protection.  Per Mr. Powell: “South Carolina is ahead of most states in performing the recommendations of an MP3, but we haven’t formally drafted the document.  I hope to get the document drafted next year.” At the close of our meeting/supper we gave away some AmAzInG door prizes!  So congratulation to those folks and we look forward to seeing everyone at out January meeting.   Merry Christmas, Everyone!
